“I modified this sketch from a poster of a Soviet youth gathering. What interested me was that the original
drawer, although Communist propagandist, was inspired by Western codes, repeating the figure of the Madonna
and the child while adding a psychedelic typography. The universality of this drawing inspired me to paint it in
different places along my travels: Lisbon, Paris, Amsterdam and London. This was my way of paying tribute to
one of the anonymous who created the masterpieces of Soviet realism under the yoke of an ideological and
aesthetic dictatorship.” C215
